Runners Need, the UK’s specialist running retailer, is set to open its newest store in Bristol this week, choosing Clifton as the location for its first standalone site in the city. The 139 sq. metre store will officially open on 2 May at 59 Queens Road, situated in the Clifton Triangle—one of the city’s most active retail districts.
This expansion adds to Runners Need’s presence in Filton and New Broadmead, where it operates as part of multi-brand stores within the Cotswold Outdoor Group. The new location, however, signals a dedicated commitment to serving Bristol’s increasingly vibrant running community with a focused, standalone offering.

Andy Dopson, Head of Retail at Runners Need, said: “We’re incredibly excited to serve the Bristol running community – one that has seen exponential growth in recent times – with the very best running and outdoor footwear. Located in a prime shopping area in Clifton, the store will serve the needs of runners of all abilities with a friendly and supportive service that will help customers get the most out of their running.”
The Clifton opening reflects the wider rise in popularity of running across the city. With the continued success of the Great Bristol Run and the emergence of a number of active community groups, the city has become known as one of the UK’s most energetic running hubs. This growth has created increased demand for performance products, expert advice, and community-focused retail services.
The new store will carry a broad selection of footwear, apparel, and running technology from major brands including On, Hoka, Asics, Brooks, New Balance, and Garmin. Outdoor footwear from Merrell and Salomon will also be available, expanding the store’s offering for hikers and walkers.
To support its customer-first ethos, Runners Need Clifton will provide in-store gait analysis to help runners assess and improve their stride, as well as a boot and shoe fitting service for outdoor enthusiasts. These personalised services aim to equip customers with products tailored to their individual needs, whether training for a marathon or hiking across the Mendip Hills.
